Tow-ball racks come in many different forms, broadly speaking they fall into two catagories or styles, and are made to fit two types of tow-bar, some racks that clamp onto the ball fit both the ‘2-bolt’ type approved tow-bars, and the European ‘swan neck’.
The first and cheapest type generally provide an arm or arms to support the bikes, so that they hang from the carrier. These are perfectly functional and safe provided due care is taken to install and secure the bikes.
The second type are more sophisticated and provide slots or channels for the bike wheels to drop into and upright arms to keep the bikes vertical. This ‘wheel support’ style usually comes complete with lighting board.

This type of rack is mainly made to strap onto a spare wheel of a 4x4 vehicle. They only carry two bikes, but are very adaptable to all sizes of wheel. In some circumstances it is not possible to operate the rear wash/wipe system, as with strap-ons in general.
An exeption to the norm. is the Pendle Bolt-on Spare Wheel rack, which provides the answer for some users.
Not so many to offer in this section, never -the-less the ones we have are well proven.
A common fitment on 4x4’s of course is a Tow-bar mount rack, and we can supply a whole host of options.

This type of rack is to be fitted to a set of roof bars, features vary according to price. The Aluminium Racks are obviously lighter and very stable when fitted to good quality roof bars. The features of top of the range Atera and Fapa are superbe, but the Avenir is an excellent cheaper alternative if Aluminium is your minimum requirement, otherwise the steel racks on offer here are still strong and very functional.
Atera Bike Lifts in Solo or Tandem version are brilliant for those of you who find it difficult to lift your bike onto the roof of your vehicle. The rack practically does it for you!

For obvious reasons there is only one suitable position on your vehicle to carry a Tandem, unless it’s a van or similar, and that’s on the roof. A couple of sturdy roof bars is all that is required in order to fit the racks we have to offer, if you say that you could not possibly lift it onto the roof, then we still leave you without excuse because Atera do a wonderful rack that practically does it for you ! . OK it costs a few bucks more but its brilliant !, and from the onlookers you’ll get nothing but admiration.
